When you can’t just quit: how to protect your peace at work

In last week’s issue, I shared how shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance one can change the way we see ourselves and our lives: from focusing on what’s missing to appreciating what we already have.
But sometimes, no matter how grounded we are internally, the environment around us chips away at that peace.
You can practice gratitude and generosity...
But in a workplace filled with unspoken expectations, passive aggression, or constant disrespect, even the strongest mindset needs backup.
So what happens when you can’t just leave but you also can’t ignore the toll it’s taking?
We’re often told, “Just quit.”
But the truth? That’s not always an option yet.
The rent is due.
Your kids need you.
You need to keep the lights on.
I’ve navigated toxic workplaces. I know how it feels.
How do you stay sane when you can’t yet leave?
That’s what this issue is about:
Resilience with boundaries.
Mindset with strategy.
And care in the face of chaos.
Here’s how my C.A.R.E.® framework can help.
🌟 Choose to be positive
It doesn’t mean pretending things are fine. It means anchoring yourself in what you still have control over: your mindset. Because mindset influences behaviours and the results you get
🌟 Acknowledge your emotions
It’s okay to feel not okay. What you suppress doesn’t go away; it builds up. Talk to someone you trust. Sharing ≠ weakness.
🌟 Reframe your mind
It’s about changing the story you tell yourself so the environment doesn’t define your worth.
For example: “My manager micromanages me because I’m not good enough.”
Reframe ⟶ “Their need for control reflects their style, not my capability.”
🌟 Embrace positive self-talk
Self-talk isn’t fluff. It’s your inner voice becoming your ally. Speak to yourself the way you would to your loved ones. Because you matter too.
For example:
“I'm doing the best I can.”
“I am capable of handling this.”
✨ And there’s more…
💪 Rebuild your confidence outside of work
Who you are isn’t defined by your job. Pour energy into hobbies, learning, or communities that remind you of your strengths.
💛 Do things that bring you joy
Even small joys like going for a walk, listening to a playlist, or enjoying your favourite food can recharge your spirit when work drains you.
Resilience doesn’t mean staying in a toxic environment forever.
It’s being clear about what you’re dealing with…while protecting what’s still yours: your peace, values and well-being.
Even if you can’t leave now, start planting seeds for your next chapter. 🌱
💬 What’s one thing that helps you stay grounded in a challenging environment?
Hit reply and share it with me. I’d love to know what’s helping you stay steady in the storm.
Until next week…
