When Life Feels Uncertain: How Positivity Can Be Your Anchor

Recently, I’ve been seeing many headlines about restructuring and layoffs.
Each one reminds me of the emotional weight so many people are silently carrying and it brought me back to my own experience.
More people are finding themselves unemployed, and along with the financial pressure comes something we talk about less often, the mental toll.
Unemployment isn’t just about losing income.
It can feel like losing your identity, direction, and sense of self, especially when your self-worth has long been tied to your work.
I’ve gone through two corporate restructurings and faced a 10-month period of unemployment.
Scrolling through job sites, sending countless applications into the void…
It can be very demoralising.
You start questioning your worth.
It’s easy to spiral into negativity.
But here’s what got me through that difficult season:
✨ Choose to be positive.
Mindset shapes behaviour, and behaviour determines results.
Positivity isn’t about pretending everything’s fine.
It’s about choosing how you respond, even when life feels unfair.
You can’t control the market.
But you can control how you show up.
And yet, this is not easy for most people, including one of my coachees, who said to me.
He had been following my posts and read about my C.A.R.E.® framework.
“Of all the elements, Choose to Be Positive is the hardest. I find it very difficult to stay positive and my quality of life is affected because of that.”
And that’s understandable. When life throws us into the dark, positivity can feel out of reach.
He had been unemployed for 6 months.
Stressed. Drained. Battling waves of self-doubt.
But everything changed after one coaching session with me.
He decided to shift his energy. To own his mindset. To show up with intention.
And just days later, he’s had not one, but two job interviews.
In fact, the interviewer even commented on how positive his presence was.
Today, he has been in his new role for a few months.
That’s not just luck. That’s deliberate mindset change.
That’s the effect of internal transformation.
If you’re going through a tough patch right now, remember,
You’re not alone.
While you can’t control the storm, you can control how you steer through it.
Start with your mindset.
Nurture positivity. It’s a game-changer.
