What True Resilience Is About
A follow-up from “Are You Being Too Hard on Yourself?”

In last week’s newsletter, we explored a truth many overlook: that being hard on ourselves doesn’t make us stronger… it just wears us out.
So what does true strength actually look like?
People always talk about resilience… but have you ever wondered:
What is true resilience?
Is it pushing through no matter what?
Putting up a strong front even when you’re breaking inside?
💭 What if resilience meant being more compassionate… to you?
Ever feel like you're supposed to “be strong”… but you're just tired?
Like everyone expects you to bounce back, but you’re still processing what just happened?
We often hear resilience described as being “tough.”
But true resilience isn’t about pretending everything’s fine while pushing ahead.
✨ It’s about bending, not breaking.
✨ Letting go, not holding on tighter.
✨ Feeling fully, not pretending you’re fine.
Resilience is the ability to adapt, recover, and grow through adversity, not by ignoring pain or pretending everything’s fine, but by moving through it with awareness, flexibility, and inner strength.
It’s not about being “tough” all the time or bouncing back instantly.
Instead, resilience is a dynamic process that often includes:
🔹 Bending, Not Breaking
Like bamboo in the wind, you may bend under pressure, but you don’t snap. You stay rooted and recover your shape.
🔹 Letting Go to Move Forward
Resilience sometimes means releasing what no longer serves you, whether that’s old expectations, toxic situations, or the version of yourself before the storm.
💬 “Letting go” isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom.
🔹 Facing Emotions, Not Avoiding Them
Resilience involves acknowledging fear, grief, anger, or shame, and then choosing what to do with them, rather than being ruled by them.
🔹 Reframing Challenges as Growth
You don’t have to love adversity.
But resilient people find ways to extract meaning or lessons from it. They ask:
👉 “What is this teaching me?”
👉 “Who am I becoming because of this?”
🔹 Accessing Support
Resilience is not a solo mission.
It’s strengthened by community, connection, and asking for help when needed.
In short, resilience isn’t just surviving hardship, it’s evolving because of it.
It’s a quiet, steady strength that often starts with a small, courageous choice:
To try again.
To let go.
To believe healing is possible.
💛 If you’re navigating something tough right now, I hope this reminds you:
You don’t have to be hard on yourself to be resilient.
You just have to be true to yourself as you rise.
