The Legacy We Leave Behind

Over the past week, at my mum’s wake, I found myself reflecting on questions I often ask myself: the meaning of life and how I want to be remembered.
Seeing so many people show up for her wake, even during Chinese New Year, spoke volumes about her.
Consistently, people said that my mum was very kind, caring, and always thinking of others before herself.
It made me pause.
If there were one word to describe us at the end of our lives, what would it be?
For my mum, that word was clear:
Kindness.
Seeing how deeply my mum was cherished reminded me that:
The impact of a life is not measured by titles, achievements, or recognition.
It is measured by how we make people feel.
I have always believed in making a difference and touching lives.
For a moment, I lost my motivation.
Grief quiets everything.
But being there at her wake reminded me why I do what I do, and reinforced it.
And I found my answer.
I will continue her legacy of kindness.
In that, I found renewed purpose and strength.
As I move forward, I will cherish my time with my father, who is very frail, and focus on what truly matters.
This week has been painful.
But it has also been clarifying.
In the end, what remains is not what we accumulate.
It is the imprint we leave on others’ hearts.
