The Inner Light That Never Leaves Us

It has been deeply heartwarming to receive feedback that《心光》 is a beautiful song, with meaningful lyrics, that it resonates, and that people feel touched.
This is exactly what I hoped《心光》would bring.
I wrote the lyrics personally, so they are heartfelt, reflecting my alopecia journey through three phases: downfall, acceptance, and comeback.
Downfall – Verse 1
The first verse reflects a time when I looked fine on the outside, but was struggling inside.
I was under immense stress in both work and personal life, with a toxic work environment and my parents’ health issues weighing on me.
I became depressed, yet I put up a strong front, smiling, fighting a battle no one could see.
To escape the pain, I turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms which ended up destroying my health.
I developed alopecia areata, an auto-immune condition, at 35, that changed my life completely.
My condition was so rare and serious that I lost all my long thick hair, eyebrows, and even eyelashes.
Devastated, a voice within me whispered: you are more than this.
Chorus – The Inner Light
The chorus carries the heart of the song.
It is a reminder that even when life feels heavy, the light inside us never leaves us.
Our challenges do not define us.
It’s how we rise that truly matters.
Every struggle hides a gift, a chance to grow.
Acceptance – Verse 2
As a perfectionist, this was very difficult.
At first, I avoided the mirror.
I didn’t want to see myself, to see how ugly I had become.
But I quickly picked myself up with positivity.
I embraced myself fully, accepting my flaws and imperfections.
Turning away from fear, I learned to love the person I see in the mirror.
I am enough, just as I am.
I rebuilt myself from within and found my direction.
What once hurt became a source of strength.
Comeback – Outro
The outro reflects a transformation from pain to purpose, from trauma to meaning.
My fall became the reason I now lift others up.
I’m truly grateful for the alopecia journey.
While I lost my hair, eyebrows, eyelashes and physical beauty, it gave me invaluable life lessons that made me a stronger, better and happier person today.
And it gave me a purpose.
Having walked through the darkest period of my life, I chose to become a motivational wellbeing speaker, leaving a 20-year corporate HR career to help others build resilience, through my C.A.R.E. framework, developed from lived experience and backed by science.
My wish is that this song inspires hope, courage, and strength when life feels heavy.
If you haven’t listened to《心光》yet, I invite you to hear it.
