Finding Meaning in a Volatile World

Have you ever questioned the meaning of life?

Amid life's daily hustle, as we move through the year, it’s worth pausing to reflect — not just on our goals and what we want to achieve, but on something deeper: how we want to live meaningfully and support those around us.

These reflections are more important than ever, especially as we face the growing mental health challenges in our society.

I vividly remember attending a certification program for Element B, focused on understanding human behaviors. During the workshop, several parents broke down in tears as they shared something heartbreaking — questions their young children had asked them:

⚠️ “Will anyone cry when I die?”

⚠️ “Will anyone come to my wake?”

expressing that they don’t feel like living.

Even though I don’t have kids, I cried uncontrollably when I heard this. I felt their pain deeply. The weight of such questions on young minds and on their parents is truly heartbreaking.

And it’s not just children. I know someone whose friend refuses to celebrate her birthday because she doesn’t know why she was born into this world. Again, my heart ached.

These stories aren’t isolated. They reveal a deeper mental health crisis — a struggle for meaning, connection, and hope in an increasingly stressful world.

Why do people feel this way?

🔹The Search for Meaning: Many of us are on a journey to understand our purpose in life. Without a clear sense of meaning, it’s easy to feel lost and disconnected.

🔹Living in Challenging Times: The stress from school, work, and personal life can be overwhelming. The pressure to perform and succeed can leave us feeling exhausted and hopeless.

🔹The Societal Definition of Success: We live in a competitive world, constantly comparing and measuring ourselves against others. This pressure creates a fear of failure and a sense of inadequacy.

How Can We Support Ourselves and Each Other?

⭐ Own Your Journey & Discover Meaning: Life isn’t about comparing yourself to others or fitting into someone else’s mold. True fulfillment comes from embracing your unique path. Be the director of your own story. Explore what brings you joy and fulfillment. Meaning isn’t always found in grand achievements; sometimes, it’s in the smallest moments — conversations, acts of kindness, and shared experiences.

⭐ Redefine Failure: It’s Okay to Fail. Life doesn’t have to be perfect. Struggles don’t make you weak; they make you human. Growth happens through setbacks – learn from your failures, embrace challenges, and encourage vulnerability. It’s through openness that we build true connections and resilience.

⭐ Keep the Child in You Alive: Children are naturally curious and open-hearted. Keeping that spirit alive helps you navigate life’s challenges with a sense of wonder and hope. Life can often feel like a game. So remind yourself to see the lighter side of things – play, explore, and hold on to that spark of joy.

It’s crucial to create safe spaces where people can express their emotions without judgment. Open conversations about mental health don’t just reduce stigma — they remind people that they’re not alone.

These principles have guided me toward greater happiness, and I hope they can do the same for you.

For me, the question ‘How can I leave a lasting impact?’ brings deeper meaning. I’ve found my purpose and path. When I focus on making a difference, I find fulfillment.

What gives your life meaning?
